Imogene Sostrich RSImogene May Sostrich, 93, of Silver City passed away October 25, 2016 at GRMC. She was a resident of Fort Bayard Medical Center.

Imogene was born in Mansfield, Arkansas on May 12, 1923.

She met and married George W. Sostrich in Carlsbad, NM on June 21/1941.

While her children were growing up Imogene was a homemaker and a seamstress. Her sewing consisted of everything from family clothing to a canvas top on the family's Jeep.

When her husband became disabled she took a cooking position at Lakeview Nursing Home in Carlsbad, NM.

Imogene enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with her family. Summers consisted of fishing trips to the mountains & lakes. In the winter the family packed up and set off for annual deer hunting trips in the Guadalupe Mountains, followed by quail hunting in the sand hills east of Carlsbad.

In her later years after the death of her husband Imogene moved to Silver City to be close to her daughter and family.

While in Silver City she volunteered with the Foster Grandparent program at Silver Consolidated School District. This was to last for 17 years. To this day some of the students she helped would still remember her and ask if she remembered them.

Imogene loved to play bingo, her trips to the casinos with friends and traveling with family. Above all Imogene loved her family.

Imogene is survived by her daughter Virginia (Gena) Moon of Silver City, NM, and William R. Sostrich (wife Deanie) of Hoodsport, WA. Six grandchildren - David Moon (wife Carol), Kenny Moon (wife Kim), Richie Moon (wife Lori) of Silver City, NM and Tara Shaffer (husband Kevin) of Atlanta, GA, Mike Cox (wife Martine) California, and Angie Cox-Bishop, NC. 21 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and brother in-law Father John L. Sostrich of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years George W. Sostrich, her parents, 2 brothers Eugene and Euel Holley, son in-law Winfred Moon and granddaughter in-law Roberta (Bobbie) Moon.

Imogene will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Terrazas Funeral Chapels on Tuesday, November 2, 2016 @ 10:00 am. Her ashes will be buried in Carlsbad, NM next to her husband at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Silver Consolidated Schools for the elementary children in need at 2810 N. Swan, Silver City, NM.
