MontoyaMaryMary Gloria Montoya, 87, of Mimbres, NM, passed away after a long illness on November 16, 2023.

Gloria (as she was known) was born in Lordsburg, NM, to Francisca Villanueva and Rafael Pastor Silva on September 15, 1936.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her son Patrick Paul Montoya.

Gloria is survived by husband Pablo Montoya; children, Donald Montoya, Paula Reeves, and Charles Montoya; grandchildren Ryne Snook, Jeremy Snook, Carlotta Montoya and Theodore Montoya; and great-granddaughter, Beatrix Jewell-Snook; sisters, Amanda Teran, Olga Chavez, Belma Burns (Russell), and Llolanda Salce; sister-in-law, Dolores Castillo (Rudy) and brother-in-law, Robert Montoya of Boise, Idaho.   

After graduation from Cobre High School, she married and moved with her husband to Los Alamos, NM, where they spent 35 years. Gloria was a loving wife and wonderful mother to her children. She had a hard-working ethic and held a number of jobs such as a school bus driver, department salesclerk, and bank teller to mention a few. Her final position was secretary for the President of University of New Mexico Branch Campus in Los Alamos. Upon retirement she and Pablo returned to their roots in Grant County making their home in the Mimbres area. In the years prior to her deteriorating health, Gloria was an active member in the community with the garden club, stamping club, American legion axillary and also volunteer member of the Silver City Museum.

A Memorial Mass will be held for Gloria at eleven o’clock in the morning on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 340 Mayo Street, Bayard, NM 88023. Father Martin Okonkwo will officiate. In lieu of flowers, mourners are asked to make a charitable donation to the American Heart Association (https://www.heart.org/en/get-involved/ways-to-give or the charity of your choice.
