SchafferLLeonard Ray Schaffer, 84, of Mimbres, NM entered eternal rest Friday, December 15, 2023 at his residence.  He was born on August 2, 1939 to his parents, David and Luetta (Lake) Schaffer in Southard, Oklahoma. 

Leonard was many things in is 84 years of life, he served in the Navy, was a barber, and retired from Boeing.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on old cars and was a gun enthusiast.  There were many sides to Ray, first and foremost he was a child of God.  He had an off the wall sense of humor and loved giving the ladies of the church a hard time.  When he loved, he loved deeply.  He loved his family and his wife, Barbara of twenty-nine years.  He touched many peoples lives and hearts.  He will be deeply missed. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara (Dawson) Schaffer; his four sons, Chris Schaffer of Kansas, Shawn Schaffer of Kansas, Jeff Schaffer (Kathy) of Wichita, KS, Joel Schaffer (Lisa) of Wichita, KS; his step-son, Michael Horner (Evelyn) of San Diego, CA; his step-daughter, Michele Udell of Hurley, NM; his three brothers, Carl Lee Schaffer (Arletta) of Phoenix, AZ, John David Schaffer (Mary) of Phoenix, AZ, Lester Schaffer (Mabe) of Houston, TX; his sister, Diana Terry (Dan) of Kingwood, TX; his six grandchildren and his two great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepson, James Michaels Deeds. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00am at Rio Mimbres Baptist Church (29 Mimbres Cactus Dr, Hanover, NM) with Pastor Tommy Moorish officiating.   Full Military Honors will follow the service.
