MadridKathKathryn (Kathy) Sue Rankin Madrid joined our Heavenly Father on April 17, 2024 at age 80, in Silver City.  Kathy was born in Henderson, Nevada on February 8, 1944 to Milton Terrell Rankin and Joe Hurley Rankin.

Kathy married the love of her life, Sonny Lopez Madrid on March 27, 1965 in Lordsburg, NM, sharing 59 beautiful years of marriage with him. Kathy dedicated most of her professional life to Gila Regional Medical Center, retiring with 35 years of service in 2015 as a Ward Clerk. Countless lives were touched by her presence and compassion during her time at the hospital. People often approached us to share stories of how her kindness impacted them during their hospital stays. Kathy's mere presence and unwavering commitment to kindness, compassion, and love made a significant difference on everyone who met her. Kathy was an amazing cook and loved to serve her “made with love” Mexican cuisines to her family, friends, and co-workers. She was proud to share many stories of how she worked in her parents’ restaurant, The Flying Twins in Fort Sumner, NM, and The Trail Pancake House in Lordsburg, NM.

Kathy had a great love for her puppies, Chica and Blanca who also loved her dearly. Kathy enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren when they played sports, she was their biggest fan and even though she struggled greatly when she got older, she never missed a game and would always say "we got to go watch those kiddos".  Kathy loved to watch old westerns like The Rifleman, Gunsmoke, and Bonanza and loved Walker Texas Ranger while enjoying drinking hot chocolate. The last year and a half of Kathy's precious life was shared, living with her daughter, Suzanne and son-n-law, Lorenzo, who loved her so, so much.  Kathy loved her husband, children, and great grandchildren immensely and they all loved her the same way.  Kathy was the epitome of a perfect wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  She was selfless to a fault, cared with all her heart, and remained untainted by the world's evil.  Kathy was the pillar of our home and family, as she raised five children in a joyful and nurturing environment, instilling in them independence and kindness.   She is survived by her husband Sonny Lopez Madrid; her daughter, Roxie Hargrove (Curtis), grandson Aaron Hargrove (Karlee), great-grandson Kolt Mathew Hargrove and great granddaughter Rynlee Henstrom; her son, David Madrid (Naomi), granddaughter Reesha Madrid, and great grandson Cardeno Madrid, granddaughter Keesha Madrid (Lawrence), great-granddaughter Azaleyah Turrieta, grandson David Madrid (Nicole), great-grandson Josiah, great-granddaughter Mia, and great grandson Zaynain Madrid; her son, Steven Madrid (Rachael), grandson Steven Anthony (Jamie), great-granddaughters Rachel and EIliana Madrid, granddaughter Stephanie (Briana), great-granddaughter Cameila Madrid, her son, Billy Madrid (Diane), grandson Kodiak, granddaughter McKayla, great-grandson Jesus Ray coming soon, and grandson Isaac Madrid; her daughter, Suzanne Sierra (Lorenzo), grandson Sonny Sierra (Ericka) great-grandson Angel Aaron Paul Sierra coming soon, grandson Caesar Sierra (Atziry), and grandson Adrian. Kathy is also survived by her sister Cheryl Ann Suther (Paul) of Texas and Joe Rankin (Carolyn) of Nevada. She is preceded in death by parents Milton Terrell and Joe Hurley Rankin, her brothers Bill (Francis) Rankin, and Jimmy (Brenda) Rankin, her grandson Angel Sierra, and her great-grandson Rico Hinojosa.  Kathy will always be remembered for her kind-hearted nature and beautiful smile.  She was the heart and soul of our family, and her absence will be deeply felt.
