HansonDDouglas Earl Hanson, 83, of Silver City passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Gila Regional Medical Center. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place.

Doug was born October 21, 1940 in Casper, Wyoming to Norman and Jean (Moore) Hanson.

He spent his childhood in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Always outgoing, Doug was hugely popular in school and passionately active at so many things. Following high school graduation, Doug worked three jobs in order to pursue higher education at Harvard University, where he played the French horn in the school band and rowed crew. In later years with his family, holidays became great parties. He kept his frog-strewn Christmas tree up year round! Doug’s loved ones will remember fondly his zeal for life.  As a lifelong businessman and entrepreneur in the health insurance field, Doug always looked forward, excited by new projects and ideas.

He was a dreamer and a planner with a fierce independence! He loved reading throughout his life and would often stay up through the night, lost in a good read. Doug held his role as a grandfather in the highest regard. He drove and often flew thousands of miles to see his grandchildren and was always so delighted to speak to them. He was filled with good-hearted stubbornness when it came to driving, manning the wheel twenty hours on family trips. He wanted to go places, even if ending up sleeping at Denny’s with stinky feet in faces!

HansonD2Doug is survived by daughter, Erin McKeel and children, Brody and Jessie McKeel; son, Jonathan Hanson (Martina) daughter, Lauren Hanson (George Wong) and children Alexander and James Wong; sister-in-law, Jan Foote, her son, Danny Gerber (Shannon Meade) and children, Liam, Everett, and Lochlan; as well as Lauren’s cousin, Rick Berg (Cindy).

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judi and his lifelong friend, Jerry Barber.

Doug is so loved and will be greatly missed by so many friends, family and people whom he touched throughout his lifetime.
