NMED issues Request for Information to develop Strategic Water Supply

SANTA FE — Following Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s announcement at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai and as highlighted in the 2024 State of the State Address delivered earlier this week, the New Mexico Environment Department today released a Request for Information (RFI) related the strategic water supply.
“To meet the demands of communities now and in the future, to sustain our economic growth, and to meet this moment with a first-of-its-kind solution, the Strategic Water Supply will build a secure, resilient water future for our state,” said Gov. Lujan Grisham. “The Strategic Water Supply will preserve our freshwater and spur the private sector to turn an untapped resource into water that we can use without asking taxpayers to front the cost.”

LAS CRUCES---The League of Women Voters of Southern New Mexico (LWVSNM) is accepting nominations for the 4th annual Making Democracy Work Award. The award is given annually in February to recognize outstanding projects or activities that strengthen democracy, said the League’s co-presidents.
“The League wants to honor the efforts and volunteerism by individuals in southern New Mexico or by a small group of individuals that bolster our democracy,” said Jo Galván Nash, co-president.
New Mexico Counties Receive Workers'Compensation Awards

SANTA FE, NM – New Mexico Counties presented Harding, Hidalgo, Rio Arriba, Lea, and Doña Ana Counties with a Workers’ Compensation Safety Award during the 2024 NMC Legislative Conference on January 18, 2024. These counties achieved a positive claim trend, and the lowest frequency of workers’ compensation claims for 2023. The awards, based on the number of employees, are divided into five divisions. Each winning county received a $7,000 contribution refund.

SANTA FE, NM - The Adult Detention Professional Standards Council (ADPSC) awarded a three-year Certificate of Reaccreditation to the Valencia County Adult Detention Facility during the New Mexico Counties 2024. Legislative Conference on January 18, 2024. The detention facility was first accredited in January 2018. The Certificate of Reaccreditation is awarded to those county detention facilities that continue to meet or exceed best practice standards in detention, as developed and approved by the ADPSC.
International film festival poster artist selected, reveal party March 1

Las Cruces-based painter Vicki L. Crouse will design the poster for the 2024 Las Cruces International Film Festival. Crouse’s work, a painting to embody the spirit of the festival, will be revealed a poster party in March before the festival begins in April.
A popular local artist, Crouse started selling her paintings at the Farmers & Crafts Market of Las Cruces in 2010. She is inspired to paint everything from cows to sunsets, forests, mountains and anything that touches her heart. Her work has found homes in just about every state in the U.S. and many foreign countries.

ENMU Board of Regents Announces Contract Extension for ENMU Chancellor James Johnston
Portales, NM – January 19, 2024 – The Eastern New Mexico University Board of Regents announced a contract extension running through January 1, 2028, for current ENMU Chancellor James Johnston.
ENMU Board of Regents President Trish Ruiz made the announcement on behalf of the ENMU Board of Regents, which unanimously supported the extension of Johnston’s agreement with the University.
