Traffic Alert White Sands Missile Range January 17, 2024.

US 70 Roadblock

LAS CRUCES - The New Mexico Department of Transportation District One office (NMDOT) along with White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) have posted an alert for Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

US 70 will be blocked beginning at 5:45 a.m., lasting approximately 1 hour and should be lifted by 6:45 a.m. This block will be located at ‘Blue Block’ (2 miles east of the access road - Mile Marker 172) and Brown Block (located at Mile Marker 192).  San Augustin Pass and Las Cruces Gate, and Nike Avenue will be affected by this block.

RPNM Statement on Gov. Lujan Grisham's State of the State Address

January 16—The second session of the 56th legislature began this afternoon with Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham delivering her annual State of the State Address.

Lujan Grisham painted an idealized picture of a dire situation in New Mexico, where education, public safety, and economic opportunity are ranked lowest among the states.

Amy Barela, the Republican Party of New Mexico First Vice Chairwoman and Otero County Commissioner issued the following statement in response:

"New Mexicans do not need the governor to tell them the 'state of the state.' Every day, the education system is failing our students, more families are struggling to afford basic necessities, homelessness is increasing, fear of being a crime victim has become a daily concern, small businesses are closing or leaving the state, there is a healthcare shortage, worker shortage, and dependence on the government continues to grow.

Calgon Carbon Corp. Picks New Mexico for Expansion

Company set to invest $94 million in Bloomfield location, expand hiring 

BLOOMFIELD, N.M. – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and executives from Calgon Carbon Corporation announced today that the company is expanding to New Mexico through an asset purchase of its new Bloomfield location.  

The New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) has finalized an agreement with Calgon Carbon. Headquartered in Pennsylvania with a parent company in Tokyo, Calgon has acquired two existing businesses, retaining all 42 current employees with plans to hire nine new employees in 2024 and a total of 16 new employees over the next several years.

NMSU’s Business Model Sprint accepting applications from NM tech startups

The Scale Up New Mexico program, funded in part by the United States Economic Development Administration and housed at New Mexico State University’s Arrowhead Center, will offer its Business Model Sprint online accelerator to tech startups in New Mexico.
 


The Business Model Sprint is tailored for New Mexico entrepreneurs and startups seeking to refine and validate their business models. The program will run every Thursday from Feb. 15 through March 21. To ensure participation, interested individuals are encouraged to apply for the free accelerator by the Feb. 2 deadline. Successful applicants will be notified of their acceptance by Feb. 7.

NM Supreme Court rules that a personal injury lawsuit against a tribal casino cannot be brought in state court

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Supreme Court ruled today that an employee of an electrical company cannot sue a pueblo and its tribal-owned enterprises in state court for damages for injuries allegedly suffered while making a delivery at a tribal casino.

Today, We Honor the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

MLKToday, we honor the memory of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and remember his incredible legacy of championing civil rights, faith, justice, and freedom. During the time of segregation, Dr. King earned his doctorate in systematic theology and became a pastor, which fueled his activism for civil rights. His convicting sermons and piercing speeches catapulted him to the forefront of the civil rights movement during the mid-twentieth century.

During the years of Dr. King's activism, he spoke over twenty-five hundred times and wrote five books and numerous articles. He led the March on Washington in 1963 and delivered his famous "l Have a Dream" speech to a crowd of 250,000 people on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
