SANTA FE, NM – Today, the New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD) presented its FY25 budget request in a hearing before the Legislative Finance Committee, outlining the agency’s plans for increasing access to early childhood programs and services, maintaining expanded eligibility for child care assistance, and investing in quality supports for early childhood providers and professionals. ECECD is requesting a $149,372,000 increase in general funds over FY24 and special appropriations totaling $23,500,000 for a total FY25 operating budget of $818,186,900.

Next Year’s Seedlings Available to Order Now

35,000 seedlings available through NMFD Conservation Seedling Program 

Santa Fe – Winter may be upon us, but it’s never too early to start looking towards next spring’s planting season. The New Mexico Energy Minerals and Natural Resources Department’s Forestry Division is pleased to announce the winter conservation seedling sale is now open to the public. 

Twenty-three varieties of seedlings will be available to order online, including long-time favorites, such as ponderosa pine, Douglas-fir, pinon pine, Rocky Mountain juniper, Scots pine, and a large variety of shrubs like chokecherry and wax currant. All proceeds from the winter seedling sale are reinvested back into the state’s Conservation Seedling Program.

DOH unveils comprehensive helpline to streamline public inquiries and make healthcare more accessible 
Unified helpline provides New Mexicans with a centralized source for health assistance 

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) announces the launch of a unified hotline, the "NM DOH Helpline,” aimed at consolidating the various DOH hotlines into a single point of contact for the public. The helpline will provide essential information and assistance on a wide range of health-related inquiries. 

The DOH Helpline, accessible at (1-833-SWNURSE) 1-833-796-8773, will be staffed by dedicated nurses who are available to address questions and concerns from the public. The helpline merges multiple hotlines including those for COVID, reproductive health, epidemiology, and more into a streamlined and accessible resource.

NMSU’s Scale Up NM, NM Angels partner to host 2024 TechSprint accelerators

The Scale Up New Mexico program, funded in part by the United States Economic Development Administration and housed at New Mexico State University’s Arrowhead Center, has partnered with New Mexico Angels for TechSprint accelerator programs in 2024.


 
Scale Up NM provides a comprehensive suite of support programs for startups in the early stages of development. This initiative expands upon existing Arrowhead Center projects, including Sprint business accelerators, assistance with Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer and support for commercialization. The goals are to create more successful New Mexico-based businesses and generate more local, high-paying jobs.

Southwest Hay & Forage Conference

Vital forage information to be presented at 2024 Southwest Hay & Forage Conference

Forage growers in the Southwest will have access to important industry information at the 2024 Southwest Hay & Forage Conference in Ruidoso, New Mexico.


 
The conference will take place Jan. 25-26, 2024, at the Ruidoso Convention Center, 111 Sierra Blanca Drive. The event is hosted by the New Mexico Hay Association and New Mexico State University’s College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.


 
Mark Marsalis, NMSU Extension forage specialist, said the conference addresses common issues that growers face daily, including high input costs, soil fertility, water management and pest control.
