The Gila Native Plant Society has invited biologist Carlos Martinez del Río to give a talk at its evening program on Friday, September 19, 2025. Carlos is calling his presentation "Pollination, fermentation, and distillation: The biocultural co-evolution of mezcales, bats, and humans."  As Carlos explains, bats and agave plants (or mezcales) have interacted for several million years.

Tai Chi is an evidence-based movement practice that improves strength, balance and well-being. This particular form was created at the University of Oregon to address the specific needs of older adults and others with poor balance and diminished strength. The form itself consists of only 8 basic movements, which are gentle and relaxing. We also do breath work (Qi Kung), stretching, and other movements to enhance general health. Wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes (like tennis shoes).

Since 1987 the Gospel Mission has served the homeless and others living at or below the poverty line. At its 111 S. Texas Street location, the Mission serves hot, well-balanced meals daily out of its soup kitchen and also runs a thrift shop and food/clothing bank. Sierra House, the Mission's shelter next door, gives women and their families a safe and warm transitional place to live.
