In recognition of the 250th anniversary of American Independence, the Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society is pleased to announce a weekly film series that will run from May 14 through June 25.  The series, entitled "Crucible of Liberty: The American Revolution in Film", will be shown on Thursday evenings at the Santa Clara Armory Building, located across US Highway 180 from the Village of Santa Clara, next to Dollar General and Open Space Brewery.    Doors open at 6 p.m. with programs starting at 6:30 p.m.  Admission is free, donations are accepted.

The Grant County Golf Association will be hosting the annual Drew Hunter Junior Golf Camp June 15-19. 

Kids 6-18, beginners to high school golfers are welcome. Learn the game and have fun with Head Pro Len Zamora and staff.  Cost is $10 per child. Clubs will be provided if you don't have any. 

Lunch will also be provided each day.  Kids who complete the program will get to play free all summer long. Conditions apply.

The Silver City Watershed Keepers program is hosting the fifth-annual Nature Discovery Summer Camp in June 2026. This free summer camp, open to rising 4th-6th graders, features experiential outdoor lessons and field trips that lead children toward a positive, confident relationship with nature. Three week-long sessions will be provided, each running 9am-3pm, Monday-Friday. Session One will take place in Silver City from June 1-5. Session Two will also take place in Silver City from June 8-12. Session Three will take place in Bayard from June 15-19, 2026.

Bridge Village will host a second orientation and sign-up event for those interested in volunteering to assist local seniors to remain in their own homes and communities.  Bridge Village is a local non-profit charity organization which has joined the national Village-to-Village organization to establish a local support system for people age 60 and older.  Through this association, the local non-profit has access to a web-based program to register volunteers and members, perform background checks, make task assignments and address other organizational management issues.

June 6th is National Secure Your Load Day, in remembrance of Matthew Reif, an Arizona man who died in 2006 when a piece of metal flew out of a truck bed and hit his car while driving. Unsecured trash and debris in vehicles or lying along our roadways are not just unsightly, they can be extremely dangerous for drivers, hikers, and bicycle riders on roads. Ben Brown presents a one-man exhibition of his exquisite abstract photographs on birch panels at the Grant County Art Guild's Studio at 307 N. Texas Street during early July. The opening reception will be held on July 3 from 4-7pm during the First Friday Art Walk. Additional dates are July 4, 5, 11, and 12 from 10am to 5pm.

In the 1970s, Ben explored Europe with his camera and a Eurail Pass, discovering myriad artistic disciplines and expressions. From paintings in France, mosaics in Spain, and pottery in Greece, he developed a passion for emulating the abstraction, geometry, and texture of these various art forms through the lens of his camera.
