Deb Haaland Built Her Career Attacking the Industry That Funds New Mexico

Albuquerque – With reports calling the race for Deb Haaland in the Democratic primary for Governor of New Mexico, Power The Future Communications Director Larry Behrens released the following statement:

"Deb Haaland has never missed a chance to side with the anti-energy left, and New Mexico families have every reason to worry about what comes next. Her record in Washington was defined by higher costs, fewer opportunities, and hostility toward the very workers who fund this state's schools, roads, and public services. New Mexico doesn't need a governor who treats its greatest economic engine like a political enemy."

Haaland's long record of hostility toward the oil and natural gas workers who power New Mexico's economy includes:

Haaland told The Guardian in 2019: "I am wholeheartedly against fracking and drilling on public lands," and that she wanted fossil fuel development phased out on federal lands.

During her 2021 Interior nomination debate, it was reported Haaland's campaign language saying she wanted to "keep fossil fuels in the ground" and had pledged to "vote against all new fossil fuel infrastructure."

In 2023 as Secretary of the Interior, Haaland's department bragged about issuing "the fewest oil and gas lease sales in history" in the Gulf of America.
