Washington, D.C. - Power The Future today released a foundational white paperRocket Fuel for America’s AI Moonshot, detailing how America’s energy policy will determine the outcome of the 21st-century race to artificial general intelligence (AGI.) Comparing the AI race to the Space Race, the report warns that misguided green energy mandates risk ceding critical ground in the emerging AI arms race. The paper outlines immediate steps—such as accelerating permitting for natural gas infrastructure and recommissioning shuttered coal plants—that are essential for providing the baseload power AGI will demand.

“Artificial intelligence will be the defining global competition of the next generation and abundant energy is the fuel it requires,” said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director of Power The Future. “We cannot afford to fight this battle with unreliable energy while our adversaries bulldoze through red tape and power their AI industries with coal and gas. America has the energy resources and the know-how—we need the will to unleash both.”

Among the paper’s key findings:

  • AI energy demand is expected to grow 70% annually.

  • Data centers—already consuming 25% of Virginia’s electricity—could use nearly half of that state’s power by 2030.

  • While one tech company pledges “carbon neutrality”, they quietly build the nation’s largest natural gas plant to meet growing AI power needs.

Rocket Fuel for America’s AI Moonshot argues that only fossil fuels can provide the scalable, round-the-clock electricity needed for AGI breakthroughs—and that any delays in pipeline and plant approvals are handing strategic advantage to China and other energy rivals. America needs an urgent realignment of energy and AI policy—starting with repealing green subsidies that distort energy markets, cutting red tape that stifles infrastructure, and embracing natural gas as the only viable fuel for America’s next great leap.
