Washington, D.C. — Today, Power The Future applauded President Trump's new Ratepayer Protection Pledge (RPP) which is an agreement with leading American AI and technology companies to ensure the massive energy demand from new data centers does not drive up electricity bills for families. Under the pledge, companies building or expanding data centers will secure the power required for their operations and pay the full cost of generation and grid infrastructure needed to support them. This partnership will help ensure expenses are not passed on to residential ratepayers while strengthening the grid and supporting long-term affordability.
"This is exactly the kind of leadership needed to keep America ahead in the global technology race while protecting working families at home," said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director for Power The Future. "We're grateful to the tech companies for their commitment to supply and pay for the power they need, because they're helping preserve America's technological edge while ensuring that everyday ratepayers aren't left footing the bill. President Trump deserves credit for bringing industry leaders together and charting a smart path that strengthens both our electric grid and our wallets."
Major companies including Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft have agreed to fund the generation resources and grid upgrades needed to power their facilities and negotiate separate rate structures with utilities so residential customers are protected from higher energy costs. The pledge also encourages companies to support local hiring and workforce development while coordinating with grid operators to enhance reliability and help prevent power shortages.
