One of the undeniable truths of life in my world is that we underestimate the average person's ability to understand complex issues. Many of these issues are not as complex as they are made out to be by the so-called subject matter experts. We are told that we can't understand our education system even though most of us went through it and know what worked and didn't work. We are told that medical, scientific, and legal issues cannot be understood by the common man. That is very wrong and history proves otherwise.
That takes us to the latest episode of Trump Derangement Syndrome, Tylenol and autism. In response to his press conference about the possible link between acetaminophen and increased rates of autism, ADD, and ADHD, the left is telling us once again that Trump and RFK Jr are trying to kill people with their pseudoscience. There is no scientific link between acetaminophen and those conditions. Additionally, autism, ADD, and ADHD are not illnesses and cannot be cured, as Trump is accused of claiming.
I posted on social media a link to the national library of medicine. The website is a repository for scientific studies regarding almost every medical issue you can think of. I pointed out correctly, that there are a number of studies that you can read in this repository that seemed to point out a causal relationship between acetaminophen and these conditions. There is at least a correlation scientifically that links acetaminophen to an increased likelihood a child will suffer one of these conditions. I added, while you may not be able to understand some of the chemical or physiological language used, the conclusions, methodology and other information is written in plain English that you can understand. You can also make your own decision about the validity of the information in the article, in part because the curators of this site will provide information on who paid for the study, the relationship, if any, of the studies' authors with industry organizations or companies for example.
So clearly there are studies, many of them done by respected institutions such as Johns Hopkins University, Harvard University, and other medical groups despite what many in the media and on social media are telling you. The makers of Tylenol in 2017 began warning pregnant women not to take their product. CNN, Canadian broadcasting company, ABC and others began reporting in 2019 of significant medical studies linking acetaminophen to an increase in child birth defects or conditions such as autism.
The usual left-wing nut jobs told me I was not a doctor or a scientist with formal training so I could not understand the conclusions of these studies. One high school friend, who became a doctor, regularly likes to tell others that without medical or scientific training you can't understand the causal relationships and that correlation does not equal causation. When I responded that correlation certainly indicates a possibility of causation that must be studied further, he said you have to be careful about what you read in the National Library of medicine because many of those studies are flawed for various reasons. Of course they are and that is something that we have to take into consideration, but at least we have information that can cause us to go to a professional and ask legitimate questions.
His response is typical of many on the left and their so-called experts. The very same news organizations that reported on the possible causal relationship are now saying there is not any scientific evidence of causal relationship or even correlation. So now we have pregnant women gulping Tylenol to prove Donald Trump wrong. I have seen no less than two dozen news reports in the last two days of pregnant women being hospitalized, several of them on life support now because they overdosed on Tylenol. The arrogance of the left plus their hatred of Donald Trump and belief that he does not follow the science is costing people their lives.
They also tell everyone that you cannot cure autism or ADHD or similar conditions because they are not illnesses. Yet the FDA approved the use of a compound that has been proven in clinical trials to reduce the negative effects of those conditions. It's like the treatment of Parkinson's, for example, it doesn't eliminate it but it reduces the negative effect upon the person who suffers from the condition. This substance that the FDA approved was not going to be approved for another 8 to 10 months because of the bureaucratic mess that is the FDA. Doctors have been asking for this to be approved on a fast track for several years and Trump finally said get it out there and let people make their own decision. And, of course, he's going to be accused of creating false hope based upon some snake oil remedy.
They clearly do not like Donald Trump and don't want him to get credit for anything. But they also showed their disdain for the average American person. We aren't smart enough or educated enough to understand these issues. They don't think that we will comprehend the information well enough, and we should rely upon the experts to tell us what is good and what is bad. But science is never settled, especially in the medical field. The information that's out there gives us a strong foundation from which we can and should talk to our own doctor. I think it comes down to not only ego but also protecting the status quo especially when it comes to big pharmaceuticals and the money they make by keeping us sick.
