"The Disappearing Mining Landscape of Grant County" Exhibit Opening
Friday, April 28, 2017, 09:00am - 04:30pm |
The exhibit will be on view from April 28 to September 4, and will consist of McMahon’s photographic prints, and a collection of minerals from three of nineteen mining districts in Grant County courtesy of Andrew Lindlof. It includes work from the last five years, and is part of an ongoing effort by a few people to preserve Silver City’s mining heritage. Led by local mining historian Terrance Humble of Bayard, and with the help of hydrologist Andrew Lindlof—and photographer Ann McMahon, their work was recognized in 2015 by the first ever Mining Heritage Award from the National Mining History Association. Tours, lectures, and demonstrations relating to mining in the Silver City area will be held during CLAY fest, July 22-30. Please check the CLAY Fest website, Silver City Museum website, and AnnMcMahon.com for updates.
