WNMU Cultural Affairs new virtual series, Women in Music, will take advantage of current circumstances to allow for a more intimate conversation with artists via Zoom. In the first of our "House concert" style series, we will meet, listen to, and talk with two trailblazing artists, Farah Siraj of Jordan and Kiran Ahluwalia of India. There will be opportunity to ask questions. Please feel free to submit questions in advance.

Kiran Ahluwalia is a modern exponent of the great vocal traditions of India and Pakistan which she honors intensely yet departs from in masterful, personal ways. Her original compositions embody the essence of Indian music while embracing influences from Mali and Western blues, rock, R & B and nuances of jazz. Ahluwalia creates boundary-breaking songs that invite us to explore the human condition, transcending the self by losing ourselves in a trance of groove and melody.

Farah Siraj balances a career that spans the United States, Europe and the Middle East. She has performed at the United Nations, Nobel Prize Hall, and The Kennedy Center. She represents Jordan annually on United Nations World Peace Day. Farah’s musical releases include her albums, Nomad, the Arabian Jazz Project and Dunya, with songs in English, Arabic and Spanish. As a humanitarian, Farah focuses on raising awareness about the consequences of war and violence, and advocates for women's rights, refugee rights and animal rights.
