Rotary Club Celebrates Bill Harrison

The Rotary Club of Silver City has announced that long time Rotarian Bill Harrison will be celebrating his 100th birthday with the club and will be the featured speaker on June 21, 2022. Mayor Ken Ladner will be presenting Harrison with an official proclamation making June 23, 2022, “James William (Bill) Harrison Day”, for Silver City. June 23 is Harrison’s actual birthday.
Harrison has a remarkable life story: He is a World War II Navy veteran; served as City Manager in Seward, Alaska, at the time of the big Alaskan earthquake in 1964; was City Manager in Silver City from 1969 to1971; was a Grant County Commissioner and served on the Southwest Council of Governments; and he was also a Business Law Professor at WNMU.
Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Rotary is the world’s oldest and largest service organization, with more than 1.2 million members in more than168 countries. Since its founding in 1923, the Silver City Rotary Club has provided support and service to numerous non-profit organizations and civic causes in Silver City and Grant County as well as supporting and participating in humanitarian projects sponsored by Rotary International.
The Rotary Club meets every Tuesday noon in the WNMU Student Memorial Building. Second Floor, Cafeteria, Sunset Room. The meeting is free to the public. If lunch is desired, a contribution of $10.00 is requested. The meetings are currently held in hybrid format; anyone unable to attend in person may attend via Zoom.
