Voting Rights and Voting Wrongs: The Background Story of Voting in New Mexico
Saturday, September 10, 2022, 11:00am - 01:00pm |
The Silver City Museum's fall community conversation series, "Rights, Responsibilities and Raucous Justice: Exploring our Systems of Government," begins Saturday, September 10, when local historian Stephen Fox, PhD, presents "Voting Rights and Voting Wrongs: The Background Story of Voting in New Mexico." Dr. Fox will discuss a variety of topics related to voting rights, including the history of women's suffrage in New Mexico, considering why the state was the last in the West to give women the vote, and the role of Silver City Woman's Club member Annette Kinyon, who was instrumental in the women's suffrage movement, yet whose name was lost in obscurity.
