The Cobre Consolidated School Board held a special meeting on September 14, 2026. Board members in attendance included Hector Carrillo, Gilbert Guadiana, and David Wilguess. Dr. Verenice Gutierrez, superintendent, also attended. Gabriella Begay and Agelina Hardin did not attend.

The board approved the agenda.

Public input none currently.

Action items

The board approved the resolution for the lease-purchase agreement certificate of a purchase agreement. Kaeley Weimerskirch, RBC Capital, joined online to provide information. This will be for the terms of the sale of the bonds that provide the technology notes in the amount of $825,000. Guadiana asked how long they had to spend the funding and Weimerskirch said five years.

The board approved the Cobre golf course lease with the city of Bayard. Gutierrez said this would need to be presented to the city of Bayard council. She had mirrored it after the baseball field agreement at Bayard Elementary and made it for 100 years. Carrillo abstained from the vote due to being an employee of the city of Bayard. Guadiana pointed out some typos that needed correction. They went over a few other items that needed changes and clarifications. They will be passing it on to Cobre's attorney for review. Wilguess addressed the need for a separate water meter.

The board approved the principal salary schedule, Guadiana voted no. Gutierrez said this salary schedule will be for the secondary school principals and had come to the board because the number of days had been modified. When the board passed the budget in June the number of days had been 195 days. Guadiana had made a motion at that meeting to have further discussion on the number of days. Gutierrez had researched multiple states that had four day weeks for the average number of days. The average in all those had been 220 so they modified the contracts. Vertex pointed out although the contracts had been signed the board had not approved it. She had checked with legal counsel, and they had said the superintendent could make that change without the board approval but did need to go to the state for approval. Gaudiana continued to question the number of days involved for four day and five day schedules. This discussion went back and forth for some time.
