Dr. Brian Robinson, an orthopedic surgeon, who has also served as Chief of staff several times for Gila Regional Medical Center recently announced his intention to retire. At a reception at GRMC on a Friday afternoon, October. 9, 2026, Robinson thanked all the people who had worked in his office, as well as those nurses, anesthesiologists and others who had worked with him in the hospital.

Among those he  thanked was his Physician's Assistant Rick Lemke, whom he has known in Silver City from their school days.

Robinson recounted many stories about his activities with those who came to thank him for his service. He also said that he was slowly retiring. His last surgery had been two weeks prior to that day, but he wanted to continue to be available, in case of problems.

When asked what he planned to do in retirement, his response was to the point: "Whatever I want to."

Smiles of gratitude were mixed with tears of seeing him leave his practice and the hospital.

GRMC recently bought the Southwest Bone and Joint practice and has already begun searching for an orthopedic surgeon to take Robinson's place.
