The Silver City Fire Department was alerted to a structure fire at 701 Hill Street around 12:34 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026. According to SCPD Chief Milo Lambert, reports were that heavy smoke from the fire was blanketing downtown Silver City.

The structure involved was a large, orange-roofed warehouse located in a vacant lot about 200-300 yards southeast of the Hudson Bridge, Lambert said,.Firefighters continue to actively suppress the blaze by surrounding and extinguishing the flames incrementally. They are taking their time because of the wood roof, which may collapse at any moment.

Cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Lambert said, and the incident will probably be turned over to the State Fire Marshal for further investigation.

Other fire agencies assisting are known to be Tyrone Volunteer Fire Department and Whiskey Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Lambert stated.

The warehouse was unoccupied, Lambert told the Beat, any contents have not been identified, and no injuries have been reported .
