Silver City, NM – May 26, 2026 – Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) is proud to announce the upcoming launch of Vision Services, marking a significant step forward in the organization's commitment to delivering comprehensive, integrated care across southwest New Mexico.
This expansion will introduce optometry services at HMS clinics in Lordsburg and Silver City, increasing access to essential vision care for patients in both Hidalgo and Grant Counties. Many individuals in these rural communities face geographic and transportation barriers that can make routine eye care difficult to obtain. By bringing these services closer to home, HMS is helping ensure patients receive the care they need to maintain their health, independence, and quality of life.
"This expansion reflects thoughtful planning, strong collaboration across departments, and a clear focus on meeting the evolving needs of our communities," said Dr. Dan Otero, Chief Executive Officer of HMS. "We are grateful to the HMS Board of Directors for their support in advancing this important initiative and to the teams whose work is making this vision a reality. We look forward to the meaningful impact these services will have for the individuals and families we serve."
"Launching Vision Services is an important step in strengthening how we deliver care across our organization," said Amanda Frost, Chief Operating Officer. "By integrating optometry into our existing services and utilizing telehealth technology, we are improving coordination of care while making it more convenient for patients to access the services they need. This approach allows us to better serve our communities in a way that is both efficient and patient-centered."
Vision Services will include comprehensive eye exams, screenings, and specialized testing conducted in person at HMS clinics by trained staff using advanced tele-optometry equipment. Patients will work directly with HMS team members on-site while also connecting with licensed optometrists through secure telehealth technology. This model allows HMS to expand specialized services into rural communities while maintaining high standards of quality, convenience, and patient experience.
The addition of Vision Services further strengthens HMS's integrated care model, which brings together medical, dental, and behavioral health services to support the whole person.
More information on service availability, scheduling, and clinic hours will be shared with the community in the coming weeks.
