Two campgrounds to be closed from September 22 until improvements are complete
Glenwood, NM, Sept. 21, 2026—Gila National Forest, Glenwood Ranger District will add shade structures at Cosmic Campground and Bighorn Campground, both located near Glenwood, New Mexico. An area closure will go into effect at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2026, and will remain in effect until the construction project is completed.
The area closures include both campgrounds and their interior forest roads. The closure helps protect public safety while a contractor uses heavy equipment to campsite shade structures in the campgrounds. Shade structures will be welcome relief from the daytime sun at these semi-desert sites, where shade trees are not available.
