Program Culminates in Live Performance of "Forces of Nature" September 24

SANTA FE, N.M. (September 8, 2026) NDI New Mexico today announced its Residency Dance Program for fourth-grade students from Harrison Schmitt Elementary, Central Elementary, and GW Stout Elementary School, as well as SWAT/Celebration Teams from Harrison Schmitt, Central, GW Stout, Guadalupe Montessori, Aldo Leopold Charter, La Plata Middle School, Pecos Cyber Academy, and Snell Middle School. The program runs September 8–24 and will culminate in a live performance of "Forces of Nature" on Thursday, September 24.

In addition to providing a creative and celebratory community event, the Residency Program will offer

NDI New Mexico's highly effective teaching methodology that incorporates dance instruction with live musical accompaniment and emphasizes social-emotional skills such as teamwork, self-confidence, and self-discipline that are critical to children's long-term development.

"NDI New Mexico is excited to be back in Silver City again for our thirty-fourth year with our annual Residency Program," said NDI New Mexico Residency Artistic Director Lauren O'Brien. "This year's performance of Forces of Nature will be an exciting event, featuring over two hundred students. We invite all to come out and celebrate these incredible students and their hard work."

The live performance will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 14 at the WNMU Fine Arts Center Theater, located at 1100–1102 N Kentucky Street in Silver City. The performance is free and open to the public.

The Residency Program in Silver City is made possible by support from the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold, United Way of Southwest New Mexico, and the New Mexico Department of Health.

NDI New Mexico's Residency Programs bring NDI New Mexico experiences of music and dance to children in 19 rural and urban communities across the state of New Mexico. The program provides a certified NDI New Mexico instructor and pianist to teach dance as part of each school's curriculum for children ages 5-13.
