The Tapestry of Talent Fiber Art Fashion show, a fundraiser for the SW Women's Fiber Arts Collective (SWFAC) features wearable fiber art and accessories. The fiber art fashions made by members of SWFAC showcase one-of-a-kind designs, unique accessories and home decor. The show will be held Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 1 pm with doors opening at 12:30 pm at The Hearth located at 1915 N. Swan Street in Siver City, NM. Funds raised by the event will go to support classes, outreach to the community, and sales events.
"More than one hundred garments, accessories and fiber art will be shown during the fashion show fundraiser", states Lisa Rush, show chair. "We are excited that the finale of the show will feature vintage Latin American garments provided by a sister nonprofit, Weaving for Justice."
Christine Eber, founder of the nonprofit explains, "Weaving for Justice is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization based in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Our organization works in solidarity with Maya women weavers and students in Chiapas, Mexico. Volunteers sell textiles hand-made by women in weaving and embroidery collectives to enable the women and their families to remain on their lands doing dignified work and to continue practicing their traditions and speaking their ancestral Mayan languages."
Eber continues, "We also sell vintage and contemporary clothing and other textiles from Latin America, passed along by generous donors, to raise funds for scholarships for Maya youth in Belize, Chiapas and Guatemala. In this project, Weaving for Justice partners with the Maya Educational Foundation based in Antigua, Guatemala. Weaving for Justice passes on the funds raised from sales of donated textiles to the Foundation which in turn distributes scholarships to worthy Maya students. This project is a moving reminder that the majority of the women artisans who made the textiles that donors acquired many decades ago, had no formal schooling. Unbeknownst to them, through the generosity of these donors and textile enthusiasts in a far-away nation and time, they have given to future generations in their communities the opportunity to pursue an education." The finale garments and most of the fashions and accessories in the fashion show will be available for sale immediately after the show.
In addition to the show, there will be six wonderful gift basket drawings valued from $450 to $515 each. SWFAC members and the community have donated items to make the baskets appealing to everyone. The baskets will be raffled at the show and are only available to fashion show ticket holders.
During March, paper tickets to the fashion show will be available at two locations. Silver City Tye Dye at the corner of Texas and Yankie Streets Thursday through Saturday from 12 noon to 4 pm, and at SWAG Books and More on Wednesdays from 11 am to 2 pm. The link for online sales can be found on our website www.fiberartscollective.org. Tickets are $20. The show has sold out in previous years, so SWFAC encourages people to purchase tickets early.
SWFAC is grateful to our sponsors, Janey and Suzi, the Elks Club, an anonymous angel, Mimbres Realty, First NM Bank, and Silver City Daily Press.
