In Loving Memory of
Irene Morales Padilla
August 18, 1937 — May 19, 2026
Fittingly, as the sun rose on the early morning of May 19, 2026, Irene M. Padilla, lovingly known to many as Nena, began her gentle ascent to reside with our Almighty God, whose warm and healing embrace soothes our souls, heals our weary bodies, and wipes away the burdens and concerns of our earthly world, allowing us to rest in eternal peace and tranquility.
Born on August 18, 1937, in Mogollon, New Mexico, Irene was the cherished daughter of Luis and Leonor Morales. She was raised surrounded by the love of a large and close-knit family and carried that same love, devotion, and compassion throughout every season of her life.
Irene shared an unbreakable bond with each of her siblings: Rudolpho Marin, Luis Morales, Henry Morales, Albert Morales, Arturo Morales, Ramon Morales, Viola Herrera, Tina Peru, Mary Lou Padilla, and Reina Rios. Family was the center of her world, and she loved each of them deeply. Her warmth, strength, kindness, and beautiful smile touched all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She married the love of her life, Gilbert J. Padilla, and together they built a beautiful family rooted in love, laughter, resilience, and cherished traditions. Irene was a proud and devoted mother to seven children — six sons and one daughter: Toby Ray Padilla, Andy M. Padilla (Patricia Padilla), Victor M. Padilla (Gail Padilla), Rudy M. Padilla (Eileen Flores), Deborah "Debbie" Jean Lopez, Gilbert M. Padilla Jr., and Richard Luis Padilla.
Irene dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She worked alongside her sister Mary Lou at the Copper Manor Hotel and later served as a CNA at Fort Bayard Medical Center and Rest Haven Nursing Home, now known as Millie's Assisted Living. She also volunteered as a grandmother for Silver Schools. Wherever she went, she made people feel welcomed, comforted, and deeply loved. She was blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life. Her grandchildren were among her greatest treasures, and the bond she shared with them was immeasurable. Anyone who walked through her door knew they would be greeted with open arms, fresh coffee always ready, warm homemade tortillas on the stove, and stories and laughter that would remain in their hearts forever. Her presence brought comfort, her laughter was contagious, and her love was unconditional.
Though our hearts ache deeply in her absence, we find peace in knowing she has been reunited with loved ones who went before her. Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gilbert J. Padilla; her daughter, Deborah "Debbie" Jean Lopez; her sons, Toby Ray Padilla and Victor M. Padilla; Grandson Toby Padilla Jr ; and her beloved parents, Luis and Leonor Morales.
Visitation will be on Friday May 29, 2026 at Baca's Funeral Chapel from 10 to 12. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 12 noon. Concluding service and burial will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Gilbert. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons: Jessie Padilla, Estevan Padilla, Diego Padilla, Giovanni Padilla, Victor Padilla, Michael Lopez, Joseph Lopez, Xavier Padilla, and Richard Padilla.
Following the services, the family warmly welcomes all family and friends to join them for a reception at the Bayard Community Center as they gather to honor, celebrate, and remember Irene's beautiful life.
"Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure.
She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure."
