It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ernest Chavez Lopez, who left us on Friday, March 20, 2026. He lived to be 90 years of age. Ernest was born on November 16, 1935, in Deming, New Mexico to Eunice Chavez and Julina Lopez.
Ernest will be lovingly remembered by his wife Teresa Lopez of seventy-two (72) years; three (3) sons, Ernest, Robert and Arnold Lopez and their spouses, Dolores, Erin, and Aida, respectively. His grandchildren, Nicholas Lopez, Jaime Lopez, Jake White, Phoenix Lopez-Luschei, and Nathan Lopez. Greatgrandchildren, Alexis and Julian Lopez, Benjamin Muro, Josiah, Derrick, Jazmin, and Aiden Lopez.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Amalia Jackson, Lucille Ganaway, Evelyn Marquez, and Oscar and Danny Lopez.
Erenst lived a full and meaningful life, defined by service, craftmanship, and deep devotion, to those he loved. As a member of the National Guard, he demonstrated dedication and pride in serving his country. He was a talented and artistic welder, as well as an adventurous hunter and fisherman who found joy in the outdoors.
Above all, Ernest cherished his family. He adored his wife and took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren., creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter. He also treasured time spent reconnecting and reminiscing with extended family.
Ernest was a loyal and steadfast friend, forming bonds that lasted decades. His warm and welcoming nature meant he rarely met a stranger-only future friends. Known for his kindness and willingness to help others, he was always there for his family and neighbors alike.
Ernest brought immense joy to all who knew him, and his legacy of love, generosity, and friendship will be remembered and cherished forever.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 10 o’clock in the morning till 11 with a funeral service to follow at Baca’s Funeral Chapel. Cremation will then take place and has been entrusted to Baca’s Funeral Chapel.
