In Loving Memory of Jules Lindowitz
Julie Ann Lindowitz née Osnowitz passed away at home on the morning of July 23rd, 2026. She was just 62 years old. Known to her friends as Jules and over the years Oz, The Hammer and Meow. She left an unforgettable impression wherever she went. Jules battled for her life with unbelievable courage and fortitude, but cancer was the one fight she did not win. She was lovingly cared for by her wife, Sylvia and her son, James, who tended to her, held her and reminded her how deeply she was loved.
Jules was born in 1964 in Toledo, Ohio to Ed and Mary Osnowitz and grew up in Perrysburg. She attended Perrysburg Highschool; home of the Yellow Jackets where she excelled as a cross-country runner and percussionist in the school band at a time when female percussionists were still uncommon. Known to all as "Oz," Jules accumulated several accolades with her bandmates including All Ohio State Fair Band and the All County Band. But her most cherished accomplishment was her friendship with Laurie Creps née Collins. They remained lifelong friends despite Laurie making Jules wear a poofy, purple bridesmaid dress at her wedding to Dave in 1988.
After high school, Jules enlisted in the United States Marine Corp serving honorably until October 11th, 1988. Standing at just five-foot-two, it was a stretch to imagine Jules as a Marine, but she was determined to serve her country proudly and managed to make it through boot camp intact. Jules was a drummer in the Marine Corp Marching Band and toured all over the east coast playing in small town parades and concert halls celebrating the United States of America.
When Jules finished her four years of service, she moved with a service buddy to Indiana. There she went to beauty school and tried her hand as a hairdresser. She also attended IUPUI and began working towards her degree. In 1995 Jules' parents retired from Ohio to Arizona. Having experienced several Indiana winters, Jules thought she might like to try the heat of Tucson, Arizona. She loved it! She enrolled at the University of Arizona and worked as a waitress at Bison Witches Bar on 4th Ave., where Jules found an eclectic group of crazy people she would come to know as family. Her dearest amongst those lifelong friends was Mo. Through every high and every low, and right up until Jules' final days, Mo remained one of Jules fiercest supporters and closest companions. Mo loved her Meow.
Jules thrived in Tucson. She finished her degree with a major in Psychology and a minor in Religion. She went to Blackjack school and dealt cards at Casino del Sol and of course eventually made her way up to "pit boss." When the JW Starr Pass Marriott opened in 2005, Jules shifted gears and brought her talents to the organization serving in numerous positions. She managed the pool, room service, Starbucks, and stewarding before settling into her long- term position as the Purchasing Manager for the resort. It was here that the moniker The Hammer was forged. Jules was integral to the Marriott's management training program and mentored countless young aspirants who either rose to her challenges or found work elsewhere. And some became her beloved friends.
Jules excelled because she had grit and integrity and she believed in doing things the right way.
It was during her years at the Marriott that Jules met Syl, the love of her life and her favorite partner-in-crime. They married in 2014 and their greatest adventure began when they adopted their son James in 2017.
In 2020, the pandemic struck and the hospitality industry was rocked. As with many at the time, Jules had to adjust accordingly. And so the Lindowitzs made their way to Silver City, New Mexico, where Jules began her work with Gila Regional Medical Center as the Chief Procurement Officer. There Jules continued her no-nonsense approach to work. Her wit, sarcasm and blunt honesty earned her the admiration and respect of a wonderful select few who "got" her.
Jules even dusted off the cards and dealt a few hands of blackjack and regaied them with stories from her dealing days.
Outside of work, Jules ran…a lot! In 2007 Jules began competing in marathons. Over the years, she ran 10 marathons and a couple dozen half marathons. Jules was dedicated to her training and preparations. She logged countless hours and miles doing headlamp runs in the wee dawn hours before work even began.
Jules also loved baking, cooking, making homemade liqueurs, beading bracelets, traveling and seeing inspiring artworks. But most of all she loved being James' mom and co-parenting him with Syl. She took the drive and determination she put into running and channeled it to create a nourishing, healthy, fun, safe and loving life for her family. Jules was also the steady hand behind Sylvia, keeping Syl's latest adventures and shenanigans pointed mostly in the right direction. Even as Jules' health declined, she spent her final days teaching and preparing Syl and James how to take care of themselves when she was gone.
Funeral services will be 2pm Tuesday August 11th, 2026, at Fort Bayard National Cemetery in Grant County New Mexico.
A potluck gathering to follow at The Hearth until 6pm. Friends wishing to contribute are welcome to drop off food at The Hearth prior to the burial. The procession will depart from The Hearth and travel together to Fort Bayard National Cemetery.
