Maryjo Hansen Callendar of Silver City, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026, shortly after suffering a stroke. She was born on July 7, 1948, in Des Plaines, Illinois, and was the beloved daughter of Delmar and Millie (Miller) Hansen.

Maryjo is survived by her husband of 34 years, Richard Callendar, her brother, Delmar Hansen (Sherry), nephew Danny Hansen of Amherst, WI; brother-in-law Bob Bogle and nephews Bobby, Jason and Chris Bogle of Ashton, IL; brother-in-law Daniel Callendar (Laurie) and nephews Brian and Tommy Callendar of Hoffman Estates, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Holly Bogle.

Maryjo attended Maine West High School in Des Plaines, and she pursued an art degree at Ashton Community College. Most of her formative years were spent in the Chicago area working for National Car Rental as a Fleet Administrator. Maryjo met her future husband, Richard, a Chicago police officer stationed at O'Hare Airport.

In 1993, after the couple retired, they moved to Silver City and began building their dream home. Maryjo was active in the 24 Club and was Secretary and Treasurer for Pop Warner youth football from its inception in Silver City. She was a valued employee Finishing Touch Home Interiors for many years. Maryjo was creative and multi-talented. She was hands-on in building their home from the ground up, including laying over 2,000 square feet of Saltillo tile and wearing out the seat of three pairs of jeans. Her calligraphy was sought out for addressing wedding envelopes, and her annual handmade Christmas cards were always treasured.

A dear friend once told Maryjo, "God spent a little more time and love on you!"

Cremation was entrusted to Terrazas Funeral Chapels, Santa Clara, NM. A Celebration of Life will be held at Terrazas on Friday, October 30, 2026 at 2pm.
