Miguel Lopez Garcia passed away on February 24th after a courageous 1 1/2-year battle with cancer. He faced his illness with strength and quiet resilience, surrounded by the love of those who meant the most to him.
Miguel was born January 15, 1966 in Silver City, NM to Joe M. and Maria Elena Garcia. He graduated from Cobre High School in 1984. He moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1994 where he was employed by Empire Title Agency as their Branch Manager and Escrow Officer. His life- long companion, Julianne Johnston accompanied him and there they raised 3 boys, Michael Johnston, Christopher Garcia and Joseph Garcia. They welcomed 2 grandchildren, Dallin Thomas Johnston, Ellie Julianne Johnston.
Miguel was a devoted family man who found his greatest joy in spending time with his loved ones. Whether it was a simple family dinner or a lively celebration. He was often the heart of the gathering. He had a natural gift for opening his home, and making sure everyone felt included. No-one ever felt like a stranger for long in Miguel's presence; his warmth and easy hospitality made new comers feel instantly welcomed.
He cherished weekend trips to Laughlin, NV where he could unwind with his crown and coke in hand, playing slots, and enjoying the company of his loved ones. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles with his brother Steve, and the memories they made doing this. Miguel will be remembered for his generous spirit, his welcoming nature, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. His presence brought people together, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and togetherness; that will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
He is survived by his companion, Julianne Johnston, his sons, Micheal Johnston, Christopher Garcia, Joseph Garcia all of Chandler, AZ; his sisters, Irene Garcia of Albuquerque, NM, and Sylvia Garcia of Phoenix, AZ; his brothers, Rene Garcia of San Diego, CA; Joe Garcia of Santa Clara, NM, and Steven Garcia of Edgewood, NM; also, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Maria Elena Garcia; his father, Joe M. Garcia; sisters, Maria Gonzalez and Consuelo Garcia; brothers, Mario Garcia, Henry Garcia, and Anthony Garcia.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 5th at 5:30-6:30pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the holy rosary to commence at 7pm with Deacon Bill Holguin reciting. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 6th at 9:30am at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Father Martin Okonkwo officiating. Private burial will take place at Santa Clara Cemetery later in the afternoon. Pallbearers are Steve Garcia Jr., Max Garcia, Eloy Garcia, Kenneth Cordorva, Juan Guzman, and Michael Buffington. Honorary Pallbearers are Michael Johnston, Christopher Garcia, Joseph Garcia. Ushers will be Jamie Smith and Ralph Kirker.
