In Loving Memory of Samuel Gandara Munoz "Sam/Sammy"

Our hearts are heavy as we announce the passing of Sam G. Munoz, 60, who passed away peacefully in his home in Gila, New Mexico, on October 14, 2026.

He was born on April 15, 1966, in Silver City, New Mexico. He lived a life marked by hard work, humility, generosity, and a deep love for family and friends.

Sam was a loving son, brother, uncle, and loyal friend, and a man whose generosity and selflessness touched the lives of many. He always thought of others before himself and always gave freely of his time, kindness, and support. Sam was humble and modest, and quite private by nature. He never sought recognition or praise for the constant things he did to help others. He was an honest, hardworking man who was always willing to lend a helping hand or offer thoughtful counsel to those who needed it. Many found comfort and guidance in his wisdom and his sincere advice he shared.

Sammy had many skills; he earned an associates in applied science for Welding Technology and worked for Hamilton Construction for 2 years. Sammy then began his career at Tyrone Mine on Jan. 23, 1990, as a Process Laborer. Throughout his career, he took on several positions of increasing responsibility, including Utilityman, Operator Maintenance man, Senior Operator Maintenance man, and ultimately a Senior Quality Specialist. Sammy dedicated 36.5 years of service to the company. Throughout his career, he was recognized for his dedication and respect for his intelligence and problem-solving skills. Some of these skills were recognized by receiving numerous awards and honors, including Frontline Award Mine Up Summit 2019, Side Sloping 101 Award, FM 2022 Frontline Award, NMO Vision Award 2022, and the Tyrone Mine Valencia Project Award. Yet many of us never knew about these awards, because Sammy was so humble and quiet in his ways. His accomplishments were many, and the legacy he's left behind is meaningful. He was proud to be part of the mining industry, and he sincerely enjoyed his coworkers and workplace.

Outside of work, Sam enjoyed learning and was always interested in gaining new knowledge. He had a deep love for hunting, collecting guns, brain-teaser puzzles, photography, and took great pleasure in his trucks. He appreciated the peace and quiet of life in the Gila Valley, where he could enjoy the surroundings he loved and live life at his own pace.

His absence will be deeply felt by the many people whose lives he touched. We will never forget his kindness, generosity, humility, and the love he showed all of us. Though he may no longer be with us, the memories he created and the goodness he shared will remain in the hearts of those who loved him. He will never be forgotten.
