It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend, Traeton T, Zumwalt, went by "Trae" for short left this world on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the age of 23. He was born on February 26, 2003, to Melanie Zumwalt and Thomas Polanco, in Silver City, NM.
Trae was known for his kind heart, infectious smile and adventurous spirit. He brought laughter, light and unforgettable memories to family and friends throughout his life. Whether spending time outdoors, sharing stories, or simply being present, Trae left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his father Thomas Polanco, of Silver City, NM, his sisters Kristen Macias, and Tristan Oaxaca, and brother-in-law Victor Oaxaca all of Silver City, NM, his grandmother Karen Zumwalt, of Silver City, NM; his aunts, Lillian Grady, Cathie (Jimmy) Knight; uncles, Steve Polanco and Alfred Polanco; his nephews Jonathon Chavez, Andre' Oaxaca, Aztan Oaxaca, Avikx Oaxaca, his niece, Azania Oaxaca; along with numerous cousins, extended family members, and many friends who loved him. He is preceded in death by his Mother Melanie Zumwalt, Uncle David Polanco, and Grandfather George Zumwalt.
Though his time with us was far too short, the memories he leaves behind had such an impact and they will always remain in our hearts. His smile still shines within our hearts, though we are now apart. The lives he touched will always mean so much. When we cast a line, hear a favorite song, or gather where he belongs, we'll remember his laughter, his kindness, and carry his memory every day.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Terrazas Funeral Chapels at 10:00am.
