Santa Fe, NM — Senate Republican Leader Bill Sharer (R-Farmington) is raising serious concerns following last week's organized release of the interim report from the "Survivors' Truth Commission." After a $750,000 legal services contract, 20 subpoenas, and access to more than 100,000 records, the committee's own report acknowledges that it offers "no final findings."
The taxpayer-funded "Truth" Commission's report was filed five days after its statutory deadline of July 31 and much of its content restates information already available to the public through FBI records, court filings, media reporting, and the federal Epstein Files Transparency Act.
Leader Sharer is especially concerned by a notable omission. While the report catalogs publicly available flight logs in detail, it does not include the record documenting Democrat gubernatorial candidateDeb Haaland's flight connected to Epstein's network. Given the committee's stated commitment to transparency and the pursuit of the 'truth,' this blatant omission raises serious and legitimate questions that immediately deserve a public answer.
This concern is not new. Senate Republicans previously called on the committee to place Deb Haaland under oath to answer questions about her alleged connections to Epstein's criminal network. That request went completely unanswered. In light of this seemingly biased and otherwise lackluster report, the public deserves transparency and accountability.
"Are New Mexico taxpayers funding the Epstein 'Truth' Commission or the Epstein 'Cover-up' Commission?" The Senator continued, "Last week's hearing is gravely concerning and raises serious questions about Chair Andrea Romero and the special committee's true intentions. The public already knows about Deb Haaland's Epstein-connected flight to Washington, D.C. and this report's intentional omission of that record –combined with silence from Deb Haaland herself– should concern every New Mexico taxpayer and registered voter. Apparently, our calls for honesty and transparency are too much to ask for; this is shameful and cannot continue unaddressed."
The survivors of Epstein's abuse, and the taxpayers who funded this investigation, deserve a thorough and evenhanded accounting. Senate Republicans are renewing our call for the committee to subpoena Deb Haaland, to publicly address the omission of Haaland's flight record, and to complete the work New Mexicans were promised. By contrast, Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury has offered to testify under oath, raising further questions about what Deb Haaland may be trying to hide.
