EAGLE NEST, N.M. – Visitors returning to Eagle Nest Lake State Park will find a fully refreshed campground following a multi-year renovation that brings modern, accessible and visitor-friendly upgrades.
The $5.9 million renovation was funded by the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) along with state capital outlay funds. The project focused on improving accessibility, enhancing visitor focused amenities and modernizing aging infrastructure.
"Eagle Nest Lake State Park is an important recreation destination, and these upgrades ensure it will continue serving families, anglers, campers and community members for years to come," said Toby Velasquez, director of the State Parks Division. "Investing in your state parks is an investment in the well-being of New Mexicans and visitors to our state."
Key Improvements Include:
New comfort station: A new restroom building with men's, women's and single-user facilities, along with new accessible parking.
Upgraded vault toilets: Refurbished to improve sanitation, ventilation and visitor experience.
New covered gathering space: A 480-square-foot, lake-view structure with built-in bench seating and an electrical receptable. The space can support education programs, group activities and community events.
Enhanced campsites: Each campsite now offers electrical service, expanded tent pads, repainted shelters, new fire rings and tables, and refreshed vegetation.
Accessible campsite improvements: Two campsites now include concrete parking pads, accessible features and ADA-compliant walkways that connect directly to the new comfort station.
New host sites: Two additional host areas now support electrical, water and wastewater hookups.
Accessible trail connections: New pathways link key campground features, improving mobility and ease of movement for visitors of all abilities.
"Eagle Nest Lake State Park is a cornerstone of the Moreno Valley's outdoor recreation economy," said Park Superintendent Jordan Mitchell. "Visitors stay longer, spend more locally and explore the region when they have high‑quality facilities like these."
