2026-2027 Wildfire Risk Reduction Grant Program Recipients
SANTA FE, NM - New Mexico Counties awarded $325,000 to 9 grant recipients for community wildfire protection plan updates, fuel reduction treatments, and education efforts through the 2026-2027 Wildfire Risk Reduction Grant Program. Grant recipients include Catron County (CWPP update & education), Cimarron Watershed Alliance (CWPP update), Ciudad Soil & Water Conservation District (education), Grant County (education), Placitas Resilience & Emergency Preparedness Alliance (education & fuel), Sierra County (CWPP update), South Central Mountain RC&D Council (education), Taos County (CWPP update), and The Paseo Project (education). The collaborative vetting process included the Bureau of Land Management, Forest Stewards Guild, NM Counties, NM Department of Game & Fish, NM Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management, NM Forestry Division, NM State Land Office, and US Fish & Wildlife Service.
Funding is provided through the Federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to assist with fuels management and community fire assistance program activities to reduce the risk and impact of catastrophic wildfires to local communities through coordination, reducing the amount of hazardous fuels, and furthering the education of landowners about wildfire prevention and mitigation. Through a partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, NMC has awarded more than $7 million in grants since 2005.
