SANTA FE, NM – Representative-elect Andrea Reeb (R-Clovis) announced today that she will take her seat in the New Mexico House of Representatives for the upcoming term, following her re-election by the voters of House District 64 on Tuesday.

Reeb resigned from the Legislature last month after a federal court ruled that her service as a legislator conflicted with her work as a special assistant district attorney.

"I had to act quickly," said Reeb. "Staying in the Legislature at that point could have jeopardized dozens of criminal cases, and the victims in those cases deserved better than that."

In the weeks that followed, constituents, local leaders, and fellow lawmakers urged Reeb to find a way to keep serving the district.

"I have been humbled by how many people called, wrote, and stopped me in town to ask me to come back," Reeb said. "The voters re-elected me knowing exactly what had happened. They made their wishes clear, and I couldn't ignore that. The people of District 64 asked me to serve, and I'm going to. I'm ready to get back to work for them."

Reeb will continue her special prosecutor work through the end of the year while transitioning her pending cases to other attorneys. In January, she will join the law firm of Payne, Powell, Truitt, and Chandler as a partner, resolving the conflict ahead of the legislative session.
