Santa Fe, NM — Today, the members of the New Mexico Senate Republican Caucus voted to elect Senator Crystal Brantley (R-Elephant Butte) to serve as Caucus Chair, replacing Senator David Gallegos (R-Eunice) who just became the Republican nominee to serve as New Mexico's next Lieutenant Governor.
By stepping down as caucus chair, Senator Gallegos will be better able to balance his legislative duties with the demands of his statewide campaign. The caucus appreciates Sen. Gallegos's contributions while serving as Caucus Chair and is pleased he will continue serving the people of Senate District 41.
"Senator Brantley is entirely deserving of her new role in leadership," said Senate Republican Leader Bill Sharer (R-Farmington). "She is a fierce advocate for the people of New Mexico, specifically in her tireless efforts to defend vulnerable children by reforming our state's Children, Youth, & Families Department (CYFD), improve access to healthcare through repairing our state's medical malpractice laws, and to defeat damaging and unconstitutional policies such as radical gun-grabs or extreme environmental mandates."
