As President Trump continues to double down on his quest to rename New Mexico, Speaker Martínez says constituents deserve to know where Republican leaders stand

Albuquerque, NM - After President Trump once again referred to the state of New Mexico as "New America," House Speaker Javier Martínez (D-Albuquerque) issued the following statement:

"At a moment when New Mexicans are struggling to afford gas and groceries because of his disastrous policies, Donald Trump is delusionally fixated on renaming our state and erasing our heritage.

It is clear that there is nothing this man cares about beyond advancing his vanity projects, inflating his ego, and profiteering off the presidency. Yet, New Mexico Republican leaders continue to inexplicably demonstrate fealty to the most unpopular President in United States history.

New Mexicans deserve to know whether Republican leadership will finally stand up to this nonsense, or if they will simply continue to put their loyalty to Trump ahead of their loyalty to the people of our state."
