SILVER CITY, NM October 30, 2026 — Sixth Judicial District Attorney Norman R. Wheeler announced that 46-year-old Craig MacFarlane will be held without bond following a pretrial detention hearing held on October 28, 2026.

MacFarlane faces one count of Battery upon a Health Care Worker (a fourth-degree felony).

Chief Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Vega represented the State. The presiding judge, the Honorable Jennifer DeLaney of the Sixth Judicial District Court, granted the State's Motion for Pretrial Detention. Judge DeLaney determined that MacFarlane's multiple felony arrests within a short period of time proved he has escalated his behavior and poses a clear danger to both the victims and the community.

On October 13, 2026, officers with the Silver City Police Department, who were at Gila Regional Medical Center on an unrelated matter, responded to a security assistance call-out. Officers located Craig MacFarlane on the ground engaged in a physical struggle with hospital staff and security personnel. Officers were able to successfully detain MacFarlane and secure him in handcuffs. MacFarlane was then transported to the Silver City Police Department for booking.

"My office fully supports our healthcare personnel, and I want to commend the Silver City Police Department for the officers' decisive action," said DA Norman Wheeler. "We stand firmly with our law enforcement officers and healthcare providers, and we thank them for the vital work they do every day."
