The Grant County Beat to host candidate forum Oct. 1, 2026

The Grant County Beat has decided to host a candidate forum for the county/state political race—the race for New Mexico House of Representatives District 39, between incumbent Rep. Luis Terrazas and his challenger, County Deputy Assessor Raul Turrieta.

The forum will take place on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. at the WNMU Besse-Forward Global Resource Center Auditorium, on the corner of 12th Street and Kentucky Street.

The format will be similar to other local forums. We will give the candidates a chance to introduce themselves, and then we will pose questions to each, alternating which one comes first.

We already have some questions to ask, but we request that anyone with questions they want to ask the candidates to send them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. before or by Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, 5 p.m. at the latest. Due to time limits, we cannot guarantee that your question will be asked or answered.

We are working on a livestream, but cannot announce for sure if it will happen, due to some tech constraints. We invite you to attend in person, but we, because it is our first event, will not accept questions that evening or during the livestream (if it happens!).

Also in the hopeful stage is that we can provide a recording after the forum, but again tech constraints may not allow that.

We invite you to support us in our first-ever hosted event by attending to learn what your candidates stand for and how they plan to support their constituents, if elected.
