May 10, at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street – "The Commons"
Ben Rasmussen, is Executive Director of The Commons Center for Food Security and Sustainability and a regional food systems leader with over a decade of experience advancing food security, economic development and community resilience in rural and frontier communities across southwest New Mexico.
His work began on a remote farm in Catron County and evolved into broader regional leadership, including co-founding the Southwest New Mexico Food System Alliance (formerly the regional food policy council).
Rasmussen is the founder of the Frontier Food Hub, which he developed into a nationally recognized, award-winning model for local aggregation, distribution and market access in geographically isolated regions. He has also served as CEO of a national advocacy organization, working at the intersection of policy philanthropy, and systems change to support more equitable and resilient remote community development initiatives across the country.
At The Commons, Ben Rasmussen is focused on strengthening core operations, expanding programmatic offerings and deepening community engagement. He is particularly interested in the long-term potential of community-based and volunteer-driven interventions to address chronic food insecurity, and in building systems that translate local capacity into sustained impact. Having partnered with The Commons for years prior to stepping into the executive director role, he brings both continuity and a forward-looking vision to the organization's work in Grant County and the broader region.
