Born in Albuquerque in 1964, Randy Searles is a native to New Mexico. He grew up in Southwest Valley and later lived in the Northeast Heights until he enlisted in the US Army at the age of 18. Returning from active duty, Searles returned to his previous work in the construction industry. This took him to projects in all the Pacific West States as well as Arizona, Colorado, Idaho and Montana. Finally settling in the Puget Sound region of Washington State in 1990, he continued advancing in the construction sector filling roles from Special Projects Superintendent to Project Manager working with Development Companies and several large international general contractors.
In 2002 following the birth of his daughter he committed to spending more time with family and started his own small business, which remains semi-active today.
In 2021, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Randy returned to New Mexico following the passing of his father-in-law, which left his then 89-year-old mother alone. Opting to spend the remaining years of his mother's life with her, he decided to stay in New Mexico. While Silver City isn't the place of his birth, he still felt connected at a very deep level to New Mexico and the people that call it home.
Taking up the mantle of "semi-retired" he had ample time to care for his mother and pursue interests that had long been side-lined. In 2024, Searles returned to the world of academia and enrolled at WNMU to further his education in Business Management.
It was during this time that he decided to find a way to share what he had learned in his 40 plus years in the construction industry, in hopes of giving young New Mexican residents tools that would help increase their skills, and in turn, bolster a much-needed resource in the waning labor force.
Following an intense weeklong seminar series on economic development he realized that, while many government and profit driven agencies were researching ways to improve the areas economic status, they often failed to include the areas greatest resource…. its people. He began to research ways that he could help lift the community by engaging the community. This all led to the creation of a people-centric community development organization.
The Community Alliance for Revitalization Efforts (C.A.R.E.) was established on June 1, 2026 and is presently in the initial stages of implementing programs that will be available to the public.
