Albuquerque, NM – July 31, 2026 —Firefighters are actively responding to suppress several wildfires following monsoonal thunderstorms this week within the Mount Taylor Ranger Districts of the Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands.

Santa Fe, NM — A whistleblower lawsuit filed this week by the New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department's (ECECD) own chief financial officer confirms what Senate Republicans have warned for months: Governor Lujan Grisham's universal childcare program is a fiscal train wreck wide open to fraud, waste, and abuse.

The lawsuit alleges ECECD leadership illegally shuffled funds to paper over an $83 million budget shortfall, without the written authorization and legislative approval state law requires, then retaliated against the CFO who blew the whistle, placing her on leave days after she raised concerns.

SANTA FE, NM – New Mexico House Republican leadership is renewing their call for Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham to convene a special legislative session and allow lawmakers to debate how best to provide tax relief to New Mexicans.

In a follow-up letter sent today, Republican Leader Gail Armstrong, Republican Whip Alan Martinez, and Republican Caucus Chair Rebecca Dow urged the governor to put both proposals before the Legislature: her proposed $250 rebate and the House Republicans' plan to eliminate the state personal income tax.

"New Mexicans deserve more than another temporary payment," said Armstrong. "The governor should call a special session and let the Legislature publicly debate whether families are better served by a one-time $250 rebate or permanent tax relief in every paycheck."

Statewide, NM - State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols; and registration, insurance, and driver's license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during August 2026.

Santa Fe, NM — The New Mexico Senate Republican Caucus is calling on the New Mexico Epstein Survivors' Truth Commission to issue subpoenas compelling Gubernatorial candidate Deb Haaland and Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury to testify, under oath, about their knowledge of and connections to Jeffrey Epstein and individuals associated with his criminal network.

The bipartisan Commission has pledged to "leave no stone unturned" and has already issued more than a dozen subpoenas to federal agencies, banks, and law enforcement as part of its investigation into Epstein's Zorro Ranch. The Senate Republican Caucus believes that the same standard of scrutiny must extend to New Mexico's political leadership, not just to outside institutions.
