LAS CRUCES - White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) has planned road closures on U.S. 70 for Saturday, May 2, 2026.

U.S. 70 will be blocked once beginning at 9:0 a.m. for approximately one hour and being lifted by 10:30 a.m. This block will be located at Blue Block (2 miles east of the access road - Mile Marker 172) and Brown Block (located at Mile Marker 192).  San Augustin Pass and LC Gate are NOT affected. However, Nike Ave will be affected by this block.

 CONTAINING FDA-REGULATED DAIRY PRODUCTS THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED DUE TO POSSIBLE SALMONELLA CONTAMINATION

WASHINGTON, APRIL 30, 2026 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for meat and poultry products containing FDA-regulated dairy ingredients that may be contaminated with Salmonella. FSIS expects additional downstream products will be identified as this ingredient recall progresses. As more information becomes available, FSIS will update this public health alert. Consumers should check back frequently.

Albuquerque, NM — Students, families, and community members are invited to attend the upcoming ABQ RoboRumble, a dynamic robotics competition bringing together student teams from across the region to showcase innovation, teamwork, and real-world STEM skills. The event highlights the growing importance of hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math education in preparing New Mexico's next generation of leaders and innovators.

Hosted in Albuquerque, RoboRumble features student-built robots competing in unique challenges that emphasize coding, engineering, and critical thinking. Events like this are part of a broader effort to expand access to STEM education, which has been shown to build technical skills, foster creativity, and strengthen teamwork among students.

SANTA FE – Spring brings warmer weather across New Mexico, and along with it comes an increase in baby wildlife — and well-meaning members of the public who attempt to help them.

However, it is rare for these young animals to be abandoned, so the New Mexico Department of Wildlife reminds the public to leave them where they are found. Baby birds represent some of the most common young wildlife encounters during the spring, and it is not unusual to find a young bird on the ground beneath a tree or shrub. In many cases, these birds are fledglings, and their parents are nearby, watching and continuing to feed them.

SOCORRO, N.M. – Two New Mexico veterinarians whose careers helped build the state's livestock emergency response system were honored Tuesday for decades of work protecting agriculture, rural communities and the food supply.

New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture Jeff Witte presented the Secretary's Agriculture Legacy Award to Dr. Tim Hanosh and Dr. John Wenzel during the New Mexico Agriculture Livestock Incident Response Team (NM-ALIRT) conference in Socorro as the organization marks its 20th anniversary in 2026.

Statewide, NM - State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols; and registration, insurance, and driver's license checkpoints in all New
Mexico counties during May 2026.

We are bringing awareness to these events to reduce impaired driving-related fatalities through continued media attention and intensive advertising.

These checkpoints are helping to change society's attitude about driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.
