On November 1, 2023, the candidate forum for the upcoming election on November 7, 2023, took place at the Silver Consolidated School board room. The forum had incumbent Rudy Bencomo and Hillary Treadway facing off.
Nick Seibel, Silver City Daily Press publisher, moderated the forum. The candidates received questions from the audience, Facebook, and the Press. Each would answer the same question and had two minutes.
Each candidate gave a three-minute introduction.

Gila Regional Medical Center each year for Halloween holds a Trunk or Treat, which is always very well attended. This year, the lines reached all the way out to 32nd Street, as costumed kids and parents, many of whom also had on costumes, waited their turns in line in an orderly manner.
Altercation between juveniles involved a handgun

According to an Oct. 19, 2023, Bayard Police Department incident report, a fight took place on Oct. 5, 2023, at about 9 p.m., at the Snell Middle School parking lot. The 13-year-old male victim told officers, the report stated, that two males, ages 13 and 14, "came out of nowhere and started swinging" on him. When the victim started to fight back, he said, according to the report, one of the assailants pulled out a black handgun and flashed it at him then returned the weapon to the front of his pants.

Nuestra Voz: The Chihuahua Hill Story is the featured exhibit at the Silver City Museum. The effort involved many participants, not only from the museum, but many residents of Chihuahua Hill took part by telling their stories about the first residential area of Silver City, populated primarily by Mexican-Americans. Many individuals are honored in the exhibit and families reached out with their photos and generational stories.

Dia de los Muertos at the Silver City Museum Oct. 29, 2023

The Silver City Museum courtyard hosted the Dia de los Muertos activity on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023. Activities included music, lots of face painters, a demonstration by Jose Manuel Ruiz Salazar of his bone carving skills, food vendors, and several creative vendors, selling fancy headdresses, intricate metal cut-out work, magnets and "rockollages," a mobile ofrenda and a museum information booth.

Community behavioral health services discussed

On September 27, 2023, Dr. Teresa Arizaga, chief mental health officer HMS (Hidalgo Medical Services), held a meeting to talk about the services available in the area for behavioral health and what the community will be doing to improve the services. This took place at the Grant County Memorial Business and Conference Center.
Dr. Stacey Cox, Center for Health Innovation-Public Health Institute welcomed everyone. Dr. Dan Otero, chief executive officer, Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) said they all had to work together. “Tonight, is about community and working effectively together. Our community has become inpatient with the health care system.” They have seen an increase in many problems.
