Ground Truthing is an exhibition by Artist-in-Residence Claire Fall Blanchette. Working across sculpture, printmaking, and drawing, Blanchette incorporates organic materials such as fungal networks, microbial films, and locally sourced rock to examine the relationship between humans and the natural world.
Through site-specific research in the Silver City region, the exhibition explores the impact of industrial history alongside processes of ecological repair. Ground Truthing invites viewers to reconsider how we relate to the land and imagine more symbiotic futures.

Expect Strong Winds and Blowing Dust
Wind advisories have been issued for February 17-20, 2026, due to strong winds and blowing dust expected to significantly impact New Mexico daily between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The National Weather Service forecasts sustained wind speeds of 25 to 35 mph, with peak gusts between 45 and 65 mph.
If you must travel, we recommend you monitor local forecast conditions prior to starting your trip and visit www.nmroads.com for current roadway information. Roadway conditions may change quickly, blowing dust can escalate to blinding dust storms as they move quickly through remote areas.

February 22, at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street – “Notable People from Silver City’s History 1860-1895"
Joanie Connors will give a brief outline of some of the amazing men and women who lived in this area from 1860 to 1895, when Silver City was the heart of the Wild West and the Indian Wars.
Many famous people lived in this area then, including Chiricahua warriors, civic leaders, lawmen, outlaws and others who lived here or passed through Silver City. Several were remarkable heroes or left legacies that are worth examining further.
Joanie Connors is not a historian, but as a writer she studied noteworthy people who lived here during Silver City's first 50 years. In addition to reading numerous books and scanning historic newspapers, she has talked to historians Stephen Fox, Doug Dinwiddie, Susan Berry, Cecelia Bell, Tom Hester and attended the New Mexico State Historians conference in 2024.

A seasonal employee makes much needed upgrades on one of the Gila National Forest's popular and well-loved trails.Local residents encouraged to apply for recreation support positions
(Silver City, N.M., February 13, 2026) — The Gila National Forest is hiring seasonal employees for the upcoming recreation season and is encouraging local residents to apply.
"Our seasonal employees are the backbone of summer operations—keeping our campgrounds, trails and recreation sites open, safe and welcoming for visitors," said Camille Howes, Forest Supervisor. "These positions offer meaningful work, hands-on experience and the chance to support public lands close to home."
The Gila National Forest is recruiting for a variety of roles, including:
Recreation and visitor services
Trail and facility maintenance
These positions are in addition to seasonal fire hire events, already underway. Bringing on seasonal employees will help improve trails, campgrounds and facilities for safer, reliable and enjoyable recreation experiences for all. The additional employees will increase our staffing in visitor services and recreation site and facility maintenance, enhancing the public's visits to the forest during our upcoming busy summer season.

Ash Wednesday is February 18th. There will be a drive-by Ashing in front of the First United Methodist Church located at 300 College Ave. from 11:30 a.m. until noon. At 6 p.m. there will be a Taize Candlelight Service with light singing and scripture.
