Bayard swears in new police chief

The town of Bayard held a regular town meeting April 25, 2022. The meeting started with Mayor Chon Fierro calling the meeting to order and leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Attendance at the meeting included Mayor Chon Fierro, Mayor Pro tem Raul Villanueva and councilors, Eloy Medina, Jose Diaz and Frances Gonzales.
Before the meeting started a brief work session took place to address several points in the regular meeting.
The council approved the agenda for the meeting with a few changes. Approval of accounts payable was removed due to the report not being ready. They added in swearing in of the new police chief for whenever the judge got there, and the education proclamation moved to new business.

CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS TODAY FOR LOW HUMIDITY AND STRONG WINDS... .Very dry air and breezy winds will continue through Thursday evening. Very dry air remains, and thus critical fire weather is expected across much of southwestern and south-central New Mexico plus far west Texas. Hurley Budget work session and special meeting

The town of Hurley held a budget workshop meeting April 26, 2022, beginning with the roll call and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Attendance of the meeting included Mayor Ed Stevens, councilors Nanette Day and Mateo Madrid. Mayor pro tem Richard Maynes and councilor Freddie Rodriquez did not attend.
The council approved the agenda for the meeting.
The agenda pertained to the fiscal year budget for 2022-2023.
Lori Ortiz, town clerk, gave the council a copy of the proposed budget. She provided them with a document that showed them the current year, proposed next year and the percent of change in each account. She explained that currently all the funds are in the positive except solid waste. It has a deficit of approximately $4,700. She said the town had not raised rates, but the rates had increased for the town. The increase had come two years ago, and it had not caught up.
