A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT CENTRAL GRANT AND NORTH CENTRAL HIDALGO COUNTIES THROUGH 700 PM MDT...At 630 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 11 miles southeast of Redrock, moving east at 25 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...Western Sierra County in south central New Mexico...
Northeastern Grant County in southwestern New Mexico...
* WHEN...Until 1000 PM MDT.
* IMPACTS...Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from
earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and
may not be passable. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing
water.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 603 PM MDT, Moderate to briefly heavy rainfall continues to
lift across eastern Grant and Western Sierra Counties. Rainfall
rates around 1 inch per hour have been observed. This will result in minor flooding on several low water crossings in the area.
Rises on the Mimbres River are likely.

continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.
Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be
passable. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 456 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area.

* At 337 PM MDT, A band of moderate to locally heavy rain is
streaming across northern Grant and far northern Hidalgo County.
Flooding is likely to occur in several arroyos, creeks, and streams
in the area, and may travel into areas which received relatively
light rainfall.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

* WHAT...Arroyo and small stream flooding caused by excessive
rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...Northeastern Grant County in southwestern New Mexico...
North Central Luna County in southwestern New Mexico...
* WHEN...Until 530 PM MDT.
* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Water over
roadways.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 1231 PM MDT, Moderate rainfall continues to affect eastern
Grant County, especially in the Upper Mimbres Basin. This will
lead to minor flows in arroyos and low water crossings through
the afternoon, especially along Highways 35, 61, and 152. Rises
are likely in the Mimbres River as well.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Faywood, San Lorenzo, Sherman, Mimbres, San Juan, and Noonday
Canyon.

The following are District One roadway maintenance lane closures and traffic alerts. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, reduce speeds, follow posted signs, and be mindful of personnel and equipment in the area. Please note that closures may be canceled without notice due to emergency requirements.
Closure– Virden Area
Closure, NM 92 eastbound and westbound from mile marker 0, Arizona State Line to mile marker 6, 3 miles east of Virden. Low water crossing are running water. Crews will continue to monitor and clear debris as needed.
Difficult Driving Conditions – MAGDALENA AREA

DEMING (LUNA COUNTY) AREA HEAVY RAINFALL
Please be advised the Luna County area is receiving heavy rainfall. Roadways are wet and slick, visibility may be low, please reduce speed and proceed with caution.
Difficult Driving Conditions in Lordsburg Area
NM 113 from mile post 10 to mile post 15, low water crossing is running with debris. If roadway is flooded do not cross and seek an alternate route. NMDOT will notify as conditions change.
Difficult Driving Conditions in Cliff Area
The Cliff Patrol has reported water running on NM 174 from mile post 1 to mile post 4. The CatWalk is open although the Gila National Forest has closed the Catwalk Recreational site. If roadway dips and low areas are running with debris, do not cross, seek an alternate route.

ROAD CLOSURE
FLOODING – Animas Area
NM 9 eastbound and westbound lanes from mile marker 0 to mile marker 13(Animas), water is running and roadway is impassable. The NMDOT is currently clearing roadway and will notify as conditions change.
When the roadway is flooded do not cross and seek an alternate route. Turn around, don't drown.
