CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS LIKELY THURSDAY SOUTHWEST NEW MEXICO AND SOUTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS OF NEW MEXICO... Dry and breezy weather pattern Wednesday and Thursday will set the stage for critical fire weather conditions across the New Mexico fire zones for Thursday. A shortwave trough coming across the Southern Rockies will induce surface low pressure in the Southern Plains on Thursday. West winds of 20 to 25 mph are forecast with gusts to 35 mph during the afternoon. Minimum relative humidity values of 7 to 15 percent are forecast. Widespread tree mortality and die back fuels will increase the wildfire risk as ERCs climb towards the 90th percentile.

CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO ON FRIDAY... Thursday will set the stage as relative humidity values drop close to 5 percent and winds become breezy, resulting in elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions. Critically dry conditions continue, as winds further increase to windy Friday as an upper-level trough swings through the Rockies. West southwest winds increase to 15 to 25 mph during the day with gusts to 35 mph in the afternoon. Relative humidity values fall to about 10 percent on Friday. Widespread tree mortality and dieback fuels will increase the wildfire risk in both the Gila and Lincoln National Forests as ERCs climb back above the average, towards the 90th percentile through Friday.

CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS THURSDAY FOR THE GILA REGION
IN SOUTHWESTERN NEW MEXICO...
Abnormally warm and critically dry conditions will persist
Thursday with breezy winds which will create low-end critical
fire weather conditions in the southern portions of the Gila
region and Black Range. Minimum relative humidity values remain
very low at 5 to 10 percent. Dead, dieback fuels, and ERCs in the
90th percentile adds to increasing fire danger. An extended
duration of single digit minimum RHs will likely increase fire
behavior. Wind speeds will be marginal, reaching near critical
thresholds in the afternoon and early evening, but all of the
other ingredients suggest this being a Red Flag situation.
