SILVER CITY, N.M. - After more than two decades of wearing nearly every hat in Mustang Athletics, Matt Enriquez has been named the Interim Athletics Director at Western New Mexico University.
A WNMU Athletic Hall of Famer and former standout player, Enriquez is entering his 21st year at the university, serving as a student-athlete, coach, and administrator. Most recently, he has held the title of Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations Affairs, where he's overseen budget management, event operations, and provided sport supervision for Men's and Women's Basketball, as well as Men's and Women's Golf.
A 2006 WNMU graduate, Enriquez still ranks among the all-time basketball greats at WNMU. Over his four-year career, he scored 1,591 points and ranks near the top of multiple statistical categories. In 2015, his impact as both a player and coach earned him a place in the WNMU Athletic Hall of Fame.
WNMU Acting President Jack Crocker stated, "From player to coach to associate athletic director, Matt's leadership and respect on and off the court has been an integral part of Mustang athletics and places him in the perfect position to continue to build on that history."
Now, as Interim Athletics Director, he brings deep institutional knowledge, unmatched Mustang pride, and a steady hand to the department's continued growth.
